A few weeks after initially starting antidepressants, the pre-authorization for the original dosage came through, just in time for my dosage increase.
This increase in dosage came paired with another claim denial. Apparently, my original pre-auth covered me only for the original dose. Even though I was only increasing my dosage by 10 milligrams, this was apparently enough to deny my entire prescription. The fact that insurance claims can be denied through an automated system by non-medical professionals is ridiculous to me. Insurance companies must do better.
Long story short, the insurance claim handlers at Dr. M’s office are awesome, and I got pre-authorized for the new dose. This authorization came much more quickly than the first one and is marked to last for an entire year.
Not to get ahead of myself in this ballad, but I haven’t needed any more increases. However, we are now nearing the end of the twelve month period that I am authorized to have these antidepressants.
Part of me fears for the day I walk into the pharmacy only to be told that my prescription was denied. However, after navigating my way through this process, I am confident that I know how to be proactive in this regard.
